This apartment designed from scratch by architect Alexandru Oprița from MRPK is the definition of contemporary luxury: minimalist lines, neutral tones and many hidden solutions, which exude a special elegance.
The apartment is located on Şoseaua Nordului in Bucharest, and its design took three years. Design Radar contributed with architectural lighting solutions, sockets, switches, doors, skirting boards, blinds, tables and chairs.
The living area, separated from the kitchen by a glass door, uses all three types of lighting:
1. Mood lighting
As the name suggests, this type of light ("ambient lighting") creates the ambiance of a space and influences the mood of those using the interior.
"In an apartment, you have to have VIBE. We can go classic, light everything up, make it look extremely bright, but, from my point of view, not necessarily in the best taste, or put certain lights, controlled, so that we play with light and shadow ," architect Alexandru Oprița expresses his vision on lighting.
For ambient lighting, the following Design Radar solutions were used here:
- the Infinito system by Davide Groppi, an ultra-thin strip of special stainless steel, just 18 mm wide, which "cuts" the space to produce indirect light;
- wall sconces arranged on the sides of the painting, like a frame of light.

And in the bedroom we find multiple sources of ambient lighting: recessed ("invisible") spotlights for traffic areas, track with directional spotlights for a play of light and shadow, black wall lights , with a narrow angle, above the bedside tables.
2. Accent lighting
To highlight a piece of furniture or decoration, we use accent lights. Our favorites are invisible spotlights , because they completely disappear into the ceiling surface. They create a special decorative effect, while remaining completely hidden from view. The spotlights have different angles, so they can illuminate narrower or wider areas.

The group of three statues in the corner of the living room is illuminated by a track with directional spotlights , which channels the light to the desired area, without the glare effect.
"We have three statues, made by a local artist, and we have three spotlights that direct the light on them from three angles, so that each statue multiplies three shadows," explains the architect.
3. Task lighting
This category of light has a functional role and is used to illuminate areas or objects necessary for an activity: the worktop, desk, etc.
In the dining room and kitchen of this apartment, for the dining area, three Stick hanging pendants from Arkoslight, from our portfolio, were used.
Stick 48V is a suspended pendulum consisting of an extremely thin vertical line.
Other minimalist solutions in the apartment
For a contemporary minimalist look, Shadow Gap aluminum profiles were used in all spaces, for the ceiling and floor. Used at the junction with the ceiling, they do not take away from the height of the spaces, like old-fashioned rafters, and create a floating wall effect. As an invisible skirting board, they are easier to maintain and clean than classic skirting boards.
The doors in the apartment are Next doors with a hidden frame (filomuro) from Albed Italia, to create the effect of a continuous wall.
The horizontal wooden blinds are from Kott Design , produced in Romania. In addition to their practical role, they have a special environmental effect, require less care, offer numerous usage scenarios and increased privacy.
The furniture pieces are made in Italy or custom-made with local suppliers. The dining table and chairs are from Calligaris, via Design Radar. The Elle swivel chairs have black legs and neutral finishes, and the Cameo dining table has a ceramic and bronze glass top: the dark finish matches the rest of the decor.
